Fundamental strokes, pressure, kneading, etc. for the purpose of relaxing the muscle tissue, increasing circulation and flexibility, releasing toxins, and providing a sense of well-being. This is the most commonly used and basic form of massage, is perfect for stress relief, and customarily covers the entire body. Pressure can be adjusted to the client's comfort, from light to firm.
Also includes Myofascial and Neuro-muscular therapies. Concentrating on deeper muscles and the connective tissue (fascia), deep tissue massage involves more pressure and targets specific areas of tension, injury, or pain. Depending on the client's response and trigger points, a deep tissue massage may not cover the entire body in one session. This is a firm style of work, may seem slower and more focused, and is also beneficial in injury rehabilitation.
Done in the traditional style, shiatsu sessions take place on a mat on the floor, with the client wearing comfortable clothing. Shiatsu involves finger and palm pressure, as well as rocking and stretching techniques to promote energy flow and general well-being throughout the body. Shiatsu usually involves a firm touch, and requires more time to address all systems and meridians. Sessions run 75-95 minutes, depending on the client and issues being addressed.
Ideal for pre- and post-athletic event or workout, sports massage involves faster strokes, stretching, and warming of the tissue, to prepare for activity, reduce pain and swelling immediately following activity, and decrease potential for injury. Sessions will be tailored to the particular sport of the athlete.
Specifically for the expectant or recent mother, this type of massage focuses on relieving the discomforts of pregnancy. Promotes relaxation and better sleep, eases tension, and helps the muscles adjust to their changing positions and additional weight. The session will take place primarily with the client on her side, propped by pillows.
Hot basalt stones and warm hands transfer heat to muscle and connective tissue, encouraging the body to enter a deep state of relaxation. Stone massage can be a powerfully moving and meditative experience, connecting mind, body, and spirit. Excellent for those who enjoy heat and firmer pressure.
